Ken R.

Advanced Massage Therapist

Specialties: Head, Neck & Shoulder Work | Lower Body Dysfunction & Pain Relief Ken is often referred to as our “massage surgeon” thanks to his precise, problem-solving approach to bodywork. Before becoming a massage therapist, he worked as an electrician mechanic in the Marines, maintaining aircraft carriers—a role that required sharp focus, steady hands, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems. He brings that same mindset to his massage sessions. With over 7 years of experience, Ken has a strong foundation in anatomy, kinesiology, and movement mechanics. He has a natural ability to assess what’s going on in the body and apply the right techniques to create meaningful change. Ken specializes in addressing chronic head, neck, and shoulder tension, as well as lower-body issues involving the hips, knees, and ankles. His work is especially helpful for clients dealing with long-standing pain, limited mobility, or recurring patterns that haven’t responded to other approaches. His style tends to be on the deeper side and is often described as intense—in a good way. Clients who work with Ken frequently experience major shifts in how their bodies feel and function. He’s an invaluable part of our team, and an excellent choice for anyone looking for targeted, effective bodywork.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is focused on how the body receives touch and pressure, working through layers of muscle and connective tissue to release tension. It’s not just about intensity—it’s about the body’s response to targeted, intentional pressure that promotes deep relaxation and healing. Often, this includes trigger point work, where focused pressure is applied to tight muscle knots to release tension. Throughout the session, we work with your breath, allowing you to actively participate in releasing stress and tension, helping your body unwind and recover at a deeper level.

align-cupping-2.png

Cupping

Cupping massage is an ancient therapeutic method that involves the application of specially designed cups to the skin's surface. These cups create a vacuum-like effect through suction, gently lifting the skin and underlying tissues. This technique promotes improved blood circulation, which can aid in releasing tension and promoting relaxation in the muscles and fascia. By targeting specific areas of the body, cupping massage can effectively address chronic pain, knots, and areas of stiffness. The negative pressure created by the cups helps to break up adhesions and encourages the body's natural healing processes. This holistic approach to wellness has been used for centuries and is now offered by skilled practitioners to provide relief and promote overall well-being.

Ashiatsu Massage

Ashiatsu massage, also known as "barefoot massage," is a unique and therapeutic bodywork technique that originated in Asia. During an Ashiatsu massage session, the practitioner utilizes their feet to deliver deep and broad pressure to the client's body. This is achieved through a combination of controlled foot movements and the use of overhead bars for balance and support. The therapist's feet apply even pressure across a larger surface area compared to traditional hand massage, allowing for effective targeting of tension and knots in muscles. Ashiatsu massage is particularly popular for its ability to provide deep tissue work while maintaining a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation for the recipient. It's an innovative approach that offers a distinctive and often soothing experience for those seeking therapeutic bodywork.

align-hot-stone-back.png

Hot Stones

Hot stone massage offers a soothing and effective approach to chronic pain relief, combining the therapeutic benefits of traditional massage with the healing properties of heated stones. The warmth from the carefully placed, smooth stones penetrates deep into muscles, promoting relaxation and increased blood flow while easing tension and reducing muscle stiffness. This dual action not only alleviates physical discomfort but also encourages a profound sense of calm, aiding in stress reduction and overall relaxation. By targeting key pain points and encouraging the body's natural healing processes, hot stone massage provides a holistic and comforting solution for individuals seeking enduring relief from chronic pain.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy enhances the massage experience through the use of carefully selected essential oils, each possessing distinct therapeutic properties that synergize with the tactile aspects of massage. As these aromatic oils are gently incorporated into the massage session, they can promote relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, alleviate muscle tension, and even alleviate certain discomforts. The inhalation of these natural fragrances can stimulate the limbic system, eliciting positive emotional responses and further deepening the relaxation response. Combined with skilled massage techniques, aromatherapy creates a holistic sensory journey that not only revitalizes the body but also uplifts the mind, fostering a profound sense of well-being and harmony.

align-guasha-shoulderblade.png

Graston (Guasha)

The Graston Technique is a specialized form of manual therapy designed to address soft tissue restrictions and promote healing within the body. Using stainless steel instruments with unique shapes and edges, trained practitioners apply precise pressure and controlled scraping motions to detect and treat areas of scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions. By breaking down these connective tissue restrictions, the technique aims to stimulate blood flow, enhance tissue regeneration, and improve the mobility and function of muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Often utilized in sports rehabilitation and musculoskeletal therapies, the Graston Technique can offer relief from conditions such as chronic pain, limited range of motion, and repetitive strain injuries, fostering the body's natural recovery mechanisms for improved physical well-being.
